On the Road (to Pittsburgh)

We drove to Pittsburgh and made good time, about 3.5 hours.  I coordinated with Elsie and asked her to stall a few minutes so Tree and I could get ahead of them and beat them home.  Kyle's friend, David Barbieri, had coordinated a group from the American Legion and other neighbors and friends of the Deems to gather on Kyle's street to welcome him home.  They lined the street surrounding Kyle's home holding American flags waiting to welcome him back to Upper Burrell.

I must admit, when Tree and I turned onto Kyle's street and saw how many cars and people were waiting for him, it was overwhelming and very emotional.  I really didn't know any of these people, but felt so touched by their presence and comforted by the amount of support Kyle had in his home town.  It made it difficult for me to take many photographs, so Brian Barbieri contributed significantly to this post with some beautiful images.

From our drive to Pittsburgh - this is the image I selected for the header.

Kyle shakes hands with people gathered to greet him when he came home - he went around and shook hands and hugged everyone who was there to support him.  It was a wonderful home coming.

A sign made for Kyle stands in the front yard in front of the Deem's house and the yard is lined with American flags as part of Kyle's home coming celebrations.
